Browse by O*NET Descriptor

O*NET Descriptors refer to categories of occupational information collected and available for O*NET-SOC occupations. You can browse by Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Interests, or Work Values. Select one of the descriptors to begin browsing.

Example

You can select the "Knowledge" option to see all of the elements or data items related to Knowledges. For Skills and Abilities, the elements are organized into subcategories; click on a subcategory to view the elements.

Knowledge

Organized sets of principles and facts applying in general domains.
Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Biology — Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

You can select a descriptor, such as "Biology", to view the ratings of each O*NET-SOC occupation for this descriptor. The Importance and Level values are displayed.

You can sort the list of occupations by clicking on any column header. The blue arrow shows the currently sorted column. Click the sorted column to reverse the sort order. To save the list of occupations as an Excel (XLS) or Comma-Separated Values (CSV) file, select the appropriate "Save Table" link near the descriptor title.
